Urushi Priming Method
The priming process improves adhesion of urushi paint repair surface defect. Good surface preparation is the key to the durability of laquareware.
HOKATAJI ー本堅地
Hokataji Is transacted to basic rigid primer. Weak spots of the substates are reinforced by cloth or paper; multiple layers paint consist of rice flour, diatomatious earth, clay power, and raw urushi.
MAKIJI -蒔地
Makiji is translated to sprinkled primer. Charcoal powder, diatomatious earth or claypower sprinkle on raw urushi. Thinner, less time consuming preserve some of the detail on the substrate.
