This tier offer you opportunity to bring your idea and design come the live. with our a large range of urushi decoration technique. The list below is not exclusive as we often invent technique to bring a design alive. We believe design is more important than skill and technique. Our design style is variable as you can see in my previous project. We did cute animal, traditional lacquerware, British traditional craft, Japanese painting and other… Although we try to distinct our design to traditional lacquerware, we can make traditional design if your idea can add new life to the old craft. Also I never even repeat a single design, making every pieces unique.

We capped the price so you can let your imagination fry without worrying the addition price of complex design (with exception: addition material charge for hyomon, and stone setting. Gold sheet and diamond are expensive)

  • Raden (shell inley)

    Raden is a shell inlay technique. Mother of pearl is cut to stripes, crush , or to a specific shape by hand, die or laser. The shell can be back with coloured urushi paint or foil.

  • Tsugaru Nuri

    The three traditional styles of Tsugaru Nuri are a) Kara-nuri, b) Nanako-nuri, c Monsha-nuri is available. Nishiki-nuri is the combination of the three techniques.


  • Nashiji & Hirameji

    Nashiji is glitter made with genuine gold, tin or silver. The colour is affected by the thickness of the top glazed, range from yellow gold to orange. Other less usual colour like red, green and blue is also available. Hirameji is thicken and round version of Nashiji, usually gold coloured.

  • Urushi-e

    Urushi-e is painting with coloured urushi as medium. Urushi often changed colour when cure, special attention and experience is need. *Rare skill

  • Textured finish

    Different texture can be added to the painting using thicken urushi, dry urushi powder and charcoal powder.

  • Chinkin

    Lines and dots is engraved a lacquered surface. Gold leaf or fine gold powder is then inlaid into the grooves, creating a delicate image.

  • Hiramakie

    Hiramakie is flat gold sprinkle painting. The pattern painted on the pen with urushi and sprinkle gold powder on the painted design while the lacquer is still wet.

  • Takamaki-e

    Also known as high relief maki-e. Employs a mixture of lacquer putty, metal or charcoal powder to build relief against a lacquer ground. It has much better texture than hiramakie. The light also reflex differently on takamakie-e.

  • Togidashi maki-e

    Translated as Polished out maki-e. In this technique, the design is painted in lacquer, and gold or silver powder is sprinkled over it. Then, another coat is applied over the powered. Finally, a the top layer of paint is burnish until the gold layer is reveal.

  • Shishiai Togidashi Maki-e

    Shishiai Togidashi Maki-e is the intricate combination of TakaMaki-e and Togidashi Maki-e.

  • Metal foil gilding

    Precious metal gilded on the pen, It has a better shine makie, but not durable.

  • Zonsei

    A combination of urushi-e and line chinkin. The motif is drawn with colored urushi and the outlines and details are engrave and filled with gold powder or foil, result in delicate gold outline. *uncommon technique

  • Stone setting crystal fixing

    This is technically jewelry making technique. The lacquerware surface is carefully engraved or drill and a tube set stone or crystal is glued into the hole.
